About

Version 2

I’m a poet, a professor, a mother, a wife, a bit of an activist, a lover of the word. My most recent book is Ringing the Changes from Finishing Line Press (2019), finalist for Book Excellence Award (Ontario). My debut full-length collection is Green and Burning from WordTech Editions (2016), a finalist for a Book Excellence Award (Ontario); a chapbook, More Water Than Words, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2017, and my debut chapbook, Night-blooming Cereus and other poems was published by Adirondack FemSoul (2007; out of print). My anthology, Ekphrasis: Art into Words was published in 2009 (Adirondack Community College). I direct the Writers Project at SUNY Adirondack, where I am a distinguished professor of English. My work has won nods (finalist or semifinalist awards) in the Writer’s Digest Awards, the Fish International Poetry Prize, the Discovery Award, the Gregory O’Donoghue International Poetry Competition, and in the Fool for Poetry International Chapbook Competition. I write as someone who looks at the world from inquisitive, spiritual, scientific, and feminist lenses and who loves contemporary Irish poetry in particular. I live in upstate New York, and I’d love to hear from you. If you’d like a copy of one of my books, please fill out the following form and I’ll get back to you. If you’d like to send me a note in the form below, I welcome those, too.
